LHIP Summit Weekend 2018

Written by
Perhaps one of the most eye-opening and incredible experiences of the LHIP program this summer was attending the LHIP summit in Colorado where I got to know all of the other amazing people that are part of this program, as well as more about the LHIP program.

Just Cedar Grove Things

Written by
The weeks are counting down, and the days seem to go even quicker. I love being able to interact with visitors to Kings Canyon across the U.S. and from around the world. All the experiences and everything that I have learned from my internship I can carry forward in school, career, and life. I really cherish the time that I spent growing and learning during this opportunity. My new experiences here are coming to an…

Environmental Justice

Written by
I grew up with clean drinking water. I had public parks available to me. My house wasn’t near a sewage treatment facility. Overall, I had clean air, clean water, and available green space. However, these important basic rights aren’t always available to everyone.

Latino Conservation Week 2018

Written by
There is so much behind-the-scenes work to planning an event. I spent the day before the event stuffing gift bags with information and goodies. In my eyes, our Latino Conservation Week event was a success. We had a great turn out despite the bad weather in the early morning. I’m happy that we still had people come out for a day of family fun. Amy and I were the first employees on the scene the…

10,000 Years in A Bird’s Eyeview

Written by
During the filming of most of this footage, I basically spent an entire day in a small metal aircraft in 110 degree heat! Was it worth it…totally.

Final Blog Post

Written by
So this is my last blog post for LHIP, and I am currently on my last day with my park as well. However, while I may be leaving I’m not going far, because I just accepted a position with our park’s non-profit partner Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA).

A Week of Traveling

I cannot believe I only have two more weeks here in Salem. The summer is going by way too fast. It’s been a lot of work but I’ve been having a lot of fun too.

My Last Week in El Malpais

Written by
Hi Everyone! This is my last week in El Malpais and I’m sad that I will be going soon. I was fortunate enough to be able to have such a fun time this past week. Being able to not only visit New Mexico but also Denver, Colorado has made this summer one of the best ones I’ve had yet. Meeting everyone else that was part of LHIP was amazing because I got to hear the…

Returning to Fire Island

Written by
“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” – Nelson Mandela This quote resonates with me because I returned to Fire Island National Seashore (FIIS) with a few doubts about whether I would be able to continue growing. I have had people ask me why I would return to a park that I previously interned at; wouldn’t I just be doing the…

Adiós a las misiones

Written by
This summer was an amazing experience and I could not have asked for a better park! I learned so much as the Multimedia Outreach Intern at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The Missions was the perfect place for me to spend my summer and the projects challenged me professionally.

A Weekend in Colorado

Written by
Ever since I was selected to be a LHIPster I had been looking forward to our trip to Colorado. I had passed by this state on my way to another but had never truly experienced its beauty. To say that I was blown away is an understatement, and the people that I met, the moments that we shared, and the conversations we had made it a once in a life time experience.

First Program on American Indians

Written by
Hello again! So far I have been thriving here in Cedar Grove! I have been presenting my talk on the American Indians of Kings Canyon and California for the past couple weeks now and have been loving giving it. When I first arrived here, I was told “okay Victoria, you’re going to have to develop and present a talk in a week, what are you interested in?”. That question held a lot of weight for…
